She appeared in Broadway's The Seagull, Six Degrees of Separation, and Hedda Gabler. In 1992 she made her film debut in Lorenzo's Oil. Linney appeared in the acclaimed PBS series Tales of the City and the sequel Further Tales of the City (2000).
